Day 246: Open Hand

Tomorrow morning (12/25) I will be flying out to Chiapas, Mexico to begin a nine day service mission to build a middle school for a village in need. I am extremely excited to be able to take this journey and expand the service portion of my mission. I am very thankful for all the support I’ve received. Since I will be off the grid for most of that time, I will be testing out Tumblr’s automation mode for posting. I will be writing up the next week’s posts and set them to auto-post mode. Please excuse any posting mishaps that might occur in my time away. I am committed to continuing my giving everyday and will be spending my holiday break giving my time as well. Today’s give goes out to Open Hand in Atlanta, a four star charity that provides healthy meals and nutrition education to people dealing with illnesses to promote better health. Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care™, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life. Open Hand seeks to eliminate disability and untimely death due to nutrition-sensitive chronic disease.

Open Hand programs offer both healthy meals and nutrition education as tools to assist individuals with chronic disease in their efforts to live healthier, independent lives.  And Client Services plays a critical role in the effectiveness of these programs.  Working closely with Nutrition Services, they manage the process of implementation—ensuring that clients are matched with the appropriate program, that they have access to the tools they need to assist them in achieving better health, and that they always receive the highest level of service.

Functioning as a critical link between clients and their families, medical providers, case managers and other resource agencies, Client Services helps streamline case management and provide an open channel for communication.
