Day 491: Children’s Miracle Network :)

It’s been 491 days since I started Living Philanthropic and so many amazing and inspiring things have happened since then. It’s been a while since I featured a daily charity, but this one is a bit kismet, so I thought it warranted a post.

Charitable projects are slipping into my professional life and I am loving it! I was recently cast in a feature film entitled “Anything’s Possible.”  It’s an amazing project featuring the hugely talented and even more philanthropic piano prodigy Ethan Bortnick. Ethan is smart and humble performer with a big heart, he has raised over 30 million dollars for charity through his live performances. Starring in his first movie, he’s donating a portion of the proceeds from the film to Children’s Miracle Network and other charities and I think that is inspiring. When I was told about that, I knew I had to join the project.

Last week while driving up to Detroit for filming, we stopped in a Dairy Queen in Indiana, it was covered with these paper Hot Air Balloons upon closer inspection they were a fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network! What are the odds that a DQ would be raising money for a charity that was receiving proceeds from a film I was on my way to go shoot? It was a nice coincidence, so I bought 5 hot air balloons for $1 each. Now, this DQ was covered in them from wall to wall, I asked the cashier how many they sold and she said over 6,000! That is amazing, that’s over $6,000, more proof that when we combine our efforts our impact is great!

Today, while making my way to Detroit again, we stopped at a Hardee’s at a Love’s Travel Stop in Michigan, guess what? They were selling paper hearts for Children’s Miracle Network! So, I bought five more.

Amount Donated: $10

About Children’s Miracle Network:

We touch the lives of more children and their families than any other children’s charity. Whether they suffer from common childhood afflictions like asthma and broken bones, or fight bigger challenges like birth defects or cancer, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids each year.

These kids aren’t in faraway countries or from opposite sides of the nations—they’re in your community. They may be your own children.

Every year, we identify a child with a remarkable medical story from each state. These “Champions” serve as the face for the millions of children treated at our hospitals every year. Our Champions and their families travel to Washington, D.C., and Orlando, Fla. each year to highlight the vital work of children’s hospitals.
