Raise your hand if you have never known anyone that fought cancer.

(I’m not actually hearing crickets right now.  Cicadas, but same idea.)

That’s the point.  Is there anything more insidious than cancer?   We are better at diagnosing it.  Better at “managing” it – I’ve heard that we are getting to the place where cancer is considered a chronic illness.  I’m not sure I buy that, but in fact, the CDC highlights cancer in a report called “Chronic Disease Control and Prevention”, which talks about the CDC’s “Leadership in Detecting, Preventing, and Controlling Cancer”.

Detecting, preventing and controlling.

How about curing cancer?  That is where Stand Up to Cancer is coming in.  That is their mission and they are going about it in a new way – rewarding grants for researchers that are collaborating rather than competing.

Here’s what I am thinking:

The more people in the fight, the better our chances.  Government, non-profs, even the drug companies.  I like that Stand Up to Cancer has built a new model to make a contribution.

So for Austin, GP, John, Bev and everyone else who has beaten it back;

Charlotte, June, George, Dave, Nancy and everyone else it took;

Jacquelyn, Sabrina, Ruth and everyone else doing battle as I type:

I made a donation to Carlo’s Crowdrise project to fight this bastard.

My name is Carlo and my mission is to #giveeveryday
Founded in April 2010, I successfully donated to 365 charities in 365 days. This mission is built on a belief that you don't have to be rich in dollars to make a difference, you only need to be rich in spirit. I may not always be able to give a lot, but I will Give Everyday.
