Day 307: Free Wheelchair Mission

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my birthday fundraiser for LiveSTRONG on Crowdrise, it’s a cause near to me. I have been a social cigarette smoker since college, last year I had quit for 15 weeks, then I had a little relapse, but it’s now been 8 weeks since I last smoked a cigarette. I am firmly committed to quitting smoking for good. The real eye opener for me was losing my uncle to lung cancer on Dec 21st, it was very difficult for me to see him in a hospital bed. Every time I am offered a cigarette or feel the slightest urge to smoke, I think of my uncle Pete and politely say no. We miss you, uncle Pete.

Today’s give goes out to Allison D. because we both think donating your birthday to charity is cool. Her birthday is today and she is donating hers to Free Wheelchair Mission, a great organization providing mobility to those in need.  Happy Birthday, Allison!

Free Wheelchair Mission is a humanitarian organization whose work is to reduce suffering by sharing the gift of mobility with the world’s disadvantaged and disabled. They serve and care for all around the world regardless of race, religion, culture, or gender, and welcome supporters and volunteers from all backgrounds. They utilize an organizational model that leverages development and support efforts alongside an extremely economical design and a vast network of manufacturing, shipping and distribution partners – the resulting system stretches donor dollars and maximizes beneficial impact on a global scale and provides mobility to those in need.

Amount Donated: $10

Day 219: Beverly Farm

Today’s give is another one inspired by the spirit of Toronto, Mississippi. On Monday, I will be donating to Marklund my $1 per ticket sold for the past two weekends of  Toronto, Mississippi. I will also be reaching out to Lambs Farm for information about my aunt, she would be 58 years old, if she is still alive. Today goes out to Beverly Farm another local organization providing a living community to adults with developmental disabilities.

Beverly Farm, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, is a planned community designed to enhance the lives of our residents, develop their life skills, and provide the required medical care and a variety of therapies. Situated on 220 acres with an abundance of green space, Beverly Farm is a pleasant place to live and work for adults (18 and older) with developmental disabilities.

At Beverly Farm they try to make the environment feel like home to their residents — in fact, better than home in many ways. With planned social activities, comfortable housing, and unique recreational facilities, Beverly Farm is as much about quality of life as it is about quality of care.

Their mission is to provide a loving, caring home for adults with developmental disabilities, providing each individual with physical and emotional security and a dignified quality of life, with opportunities and challenges, within each individual’s functional capabilities.

Amount Donated: $5
