February Featured Charity

Quick update, we’ve raised $2,120 for Operation Respect as January’s featured charity, thank you to everyone who contributed to the cause!

February’s featured charity will be I’m Too Young For This Cancer Foundation. I met I’m Too Young’s Development Director, Colleen O’Neill in San Diego when they won their Classy Award and she turned me on to the organizations OMG2012 Cancer Summit for Young Adults.

The OMG! Cancer Summit is the premiere oncology conference and social networking event for the young adult cancer movement.  A program of the I’m Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation, the OMG! Cancer Summit, now in it’s 5th year, has become a pivotal healthcare event that inspires thousands of survivors, cargivers and providers—along with scores of academic, advocacy, research and support organizations—to get organized, build community and unite as one to drive change.

I was planning on attending the summit this year, but I will be unable to do so due to work commitments. But I wanted to support the cause and raise some money for I’m Too Young For This, so please check out February’s featured charity: I’m Too Young For This!

August Featured Charity: Stand Up To Cancer

Living Philanthropic is proud to announce that the featured charity for August 2011 is Stand Up To Cancer. I am also proud to announce that we have an anonymous matching donor for this month who will be matching the first $1,000 in donations made to the Crowdrise Team page!

This is an amazing opportunity to double your impact, turn your $10 contribution into a $20 donation! I could not be more grateful for this generous kindred spirit, especially to a cause that is close to my heart. In 2010, I lost 3 dear people to cancer and this year many of my friends have lost relatives to cancer or are currently battling a form of cancer. So, let’s all join together and STAND UP TO CANCER in memory of those we have lost and in honor of those who are fighting it.

Stand Up To Cancer is a new initiative created to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. SU2C’s goal is to bring together the best and the brightest in the cancer community, encouraging collaboration instead of competition. By galvanizing the entertainment industry, SU2C creates awareness and builds broad public support for this effort. http://www.standup2cancer.org

Living Philanthropic
was founded in April 2010 as one man’s mission to give to charity everyday for a year. This mission is built on a belief that you don’t have to be rich in dollars to make a difference; you only need to be rich in spirit. After completing his 365 day mission, the spirit of giving everyday carries on through his friends and in his mission to continue his micro-philanthropy for a second year. Guest Blogger: Kris Black

I’ve been involved with The Art of Elysium for around nine months and my only disappointment is that it took me so long to find them. From the moment I heard what their cause was, I was hooked.

I chose to volunteer with their arts program being that I’m a painter. From my very first visit I was so touched by the reactions of kids. It sounds cliche but seeing just one of the kids smiling, laughing, and having fun makes my day every time.

It has also helped me as an artist, the kids inspire me to be more playful and fun in my own work. I feel very fortunate and blessed to be able to share my passion for art and get to help kids be kids. Thank you Art of Eylsium.

Thank you Kris for being an inspiring volunteer!
