Separated at Birth?

Separated at Birth?

Ben Stiller joined Crowdrise last week and his profile photo looks eerily similar to mine! Above left is the ribbon cutting of the school I helped build in Chiapas with Foundation Escalera. Above right is the ribbon cutting of a school site in Haiti with Ben Stiller’s Stillerstrong Foundation.

At any rate, it’s a mirror image of kindred spirits. :)

It’s encouraging to discover like-minded souls who strongly believe in supporting education to combat poverty.

Day 289: Stiller Foundation

Today, I noticed Ben Stiller had joined Crowdrise and after reading more about his foundation and project in Haiti, I had to join his team and make a donation to his cause. We are on the exact same wave length when it comes to promoting education worldwide. My experiences building a school in Chiapas this past December with Foundation Escalera only strengthened my resolve. By developing and promoting better schools in impoverished communities, we are investing in the future of these communities and the children who will grow to become the community leaders and problem-solvers. Thanks for the inspiration, Ben!

The Stiller Foundation: Based on his core belief that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential, acclaimed actor, writer, director and producer Ben Stiller founded The Stiller Foundation in 2010. The Foundation’s primary mission is to promote the education and well being of children worldwide through initiatives that develop and support high-quality schools.

Inspired by his first visit to the nation in 2009, Ben began a unique fundraising campaign, “Stillerstrong”, which raised more than $300,000 to support the Save the Children School in Cévérine, Haiti. When the January 2010 earthquake hit, Ben expanded his commitment to Haiti with a broader effort to rebuild schools for children affected by the catastrophe. He launched the “Haitian School Initiative” in partnership with Architecture for Humanity – a non-profit organization that brings design, construction and development services to communities in need. The Stiller Foundation and Architecture for Humanity are currently rebuilding four badly damaged schools in the Port-Au-Prince area. Other temporary-to-permanent structures have been erected as of the 2010 fall term, allowing hundreds of children to return to a safe learning space.

Amount Donated: $25
