Day 183: I Am Authenthic

I am all for improving self image and body awareness in young adults. With a lot of media and fashion focus on looking perfect, it can be very overwhelming when you are uniquely awesome and don’t look like someone’s ideal of perfect. The dangers of this pressure put on young adults can lead to low self-esteem, perceptions of low self-worth, health issues from eating disorders, and possible dangerous body altering surgeries. Groups like I Am Authentic are spreading a message of loving the “authentic” body and beauty you have to young people and loving the “true you” is a great message.

I AM AUTHENTIC is a self image campaign focused at young women and men. Through community outreach and monthly workshops IAA spreads its goals. Right now they are getting started in the Billings community by spreading their name through events. I AM AUTHENTIC believes that through loving yourself, you gain confidence, strength, and a beauty never before seen. Love is a powerful tool. I AM AUTHENTIC invites you to Join their revolution, stop hating your body!

Day 91: Children’s Body-Image Foundation

The other night I had a dream where I started an organization dedicated to promoting positive body image and boosting self-esteem for young adults and adolescents. I plan on doing some research, but I might have found my next mission. In the meantime, I am showing my support to another organization with a similar purpose, the “BE U” campaign!  Because all children are BEaUtiful!

Children’s Body-Image Foundation believes that all children should feel good about themselves. They are advocates for every child. They strive to improve children’s self-esteem and self-confidence by raising body image awareness, educating the public, and by promoting acceptance of all children within our community. Their organization highlights the fact that certain medical conditions and traumas can also have a negative effect on a child’s sense of self, both physical and or psychological. Some of the conditions they serve are: clubfeet, pediatric cancers, alopecia (hair loss), amputation, body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and other related conditions.  Allied healthcare services needs vary and include such services as: professional counseling, braces/supportive devices (durable medical equipment/DME), physical therapy rehabilitation, prosthetics, and other related services.  Helping children establish healthy habits that include nutrition and fitness education are also key components in developing a lifetime of better health.
